Amazon FBA storage fees, limits and IPI score

What Amazon charges to hold your stock in FBA, how the aged-inventory surcharge, storage limits and the IPI score fit together, and how Skuvelo weighs holding aged stock against removing it from rates you type in.

Last updated

Stock at Amazon costs money every month it sits there, and costs more once it has sat too long. Amazon also caps how much you may keep there. These charges and limits decide how much you should send, and when an item is worth pulling back.

Where the rates come from

Amazon sets and changes its storage rates, its age thresholds and the way it works out limits. This guide gives no fee amounts, ages or score thresholds. Read Amazon's current rates in Seller Central:

  • Monthly inventory storage fees: sellercentral.amazon.com/help/hub/reference/external/G3EDYEF6KUCFQTNM
  • Aged inventory surcharge: sellercentral.amazon.com/help/hub/reference/external/GJQNPA2M8CR5RZTB

As of 22 October 2026 neither page could be read without a Seller Central sign-in, so no figure from them appears here. Copy the rates that apply to your account from those pages.

Monthly storage fee

Amazon charges a monthly storage fee for the space your stock takes up in its fulfilment centres, measured in cubic feet, at a rate that varies by the kind of item and the time of year. Because it is charged on space, a bulky item that sells slowly costs far more to keep at Amazon than a small one that sells quickly, so the same number of days of cover can carry very different storage bills.

Aged inventory surcharge

On top of the monthly fee, Amazon adds an aged-inventory surcharge to units that have been in its warehouses past its age thresholds. It is the charge sellers searching for Amazon's long-term storage fees are usually looking for. A unit that has not sold keeps adding storage cost while it waits, and past a point removing it costs less than keeping it.

Storage limits and capacity

Amazon sets a storage limit for your account, in cubic feet, a month at a time. Amazon's announcement of its monthly capacity limits (sell.amazon.com/blog/announcements/fba-capacity, dated 17 January 2023 and read on 22 October 2026) says a limit covers the stock you hold at Amazon and the shipments you have created that have not yet arrived, and that the coming limits are announced in Capacity Monitor in Seller Central. When a send would not fit, it waits upstream: in your warehouse, a 3PL or AWD. The FBA capacity calculator works out how many weeks of cover fit inside a limit you copy from Seller Central.

IPI score

The Inventory Performance Index (IPI) is Amazon's score for how well you manage your FBA stock, shown in Seller Central. The same 2023 announcement says capacity limits are influenced by your IPI score, together with Amazon's sales forecasts for your ASINs, shipment lead time and fulfilment centre capacity. Amazon may have changed this since; check the score and what Amazon currently says about it in Seller Central. Skuvelo does not read the score.

How Skuvelo uses these costs

Skuvelo does not look up Amazon's fees. You type them under Amazon settings on Plan → Restock Amazon FBA:

  • Storage limit. Type the current limit and the coming one, per Amazon location. Skuvelo counts the space your stock at Amazon, on the way and in open drafts takes against it, and shrinks sends that would not fit, giving the room first to items about to run out. With no limit typed, nothing is cut.
  • Storage fee, aged surcharge, removal fee and stranded age. The stranded age is the days unsold before a unit counts as stranded. With all four typed, the aged column says whether holding or removing the units about to cross Amazon's age threshold is cheaper, and by how much, or that the item's size is missing. With a rate or the stranded age blank, an item's unit cost missing, or its cost kept in another currency, it shows the units and their value only.

Amazon stays the record: Skuvelo does not change listings or stock in Seller Central. How the send quantity and ship-by date are worked out is in Restock Amazon FBA. The Amazon planning view as a whole is described on Skuvelo for Amazon FBA.
