Your FBA space plan

Illustrative values. Enter the limit from Seller Central for one storage type, and the space your other SKUs use there: on hand plus open shipments. The SKUs you list already account for their own stock. This is a planning estimate, not Amazon's capacity decision.

SKU 1
Unit volume

Space needed for planned cover

400 cubic feet

Space available now
200 cubic feet
Space to hold upstream
200 cubic feet
Weeks of cover that fit
4 weeks

The shortfall is a planning amount for upstream storage, such as AWD, a 3PL or your own warehouse, to send as space becomes available. This does not predict Amazon's limit or guarantee shipment acceptance.

Amazon sources, read October 4, 2026: FBA capacity limits and how FBA capacity limits work. Check Seller Central for your own current limit, storage type and shipment eligibility.

The formula

Unit cubic feet = length × width × height in inches ÷ 1,728

Space needed = sum over SKUs of (weekly units × weeks of cover × unit cubic feet)

Free space = max(0, capacity limit − space used by SKUs not listed)

Upstream shortfall = max(0, space needed − free space)

Weeks fitting in free space = free space ÷ sum of weekly cubic feet

Capacity limit
The limit for one storage type copied from Seller Central; this tool does not calculate Amazon's limit.
Other SKUs' usage
Space taken by your other SKUs in the same storage type: on hand at Amazon plus open shipments. Leave out the SKUs you list, because their weeks of cover already include the stock they hold.
Unit volume
Seller Central's cubic feet per unit, or a simple box dimension estimate.

Worked example

  1. One illustrative SKU sells 100 units a week. At 0.5 cubic feet per unit and 8 weeks of cover, it needs 400 cubic feet.
  2. The entered limit is 300 cubic feet. The seller's other SKUs use 100, on hand plus open shipments, leaving 200 cubic feet for this one.
  3. Space to hold upstream is 400 − 200 = 200 cubic feet.
  4. That free space holds 4 weeks at the entered weekly volume. This is a planning estimate, not Amazon's capacity calculation.

When it applies

  • Planning a single FBA storage type against a limit and usage read in Seller Central.
  • Sizing an upstream reserve for stock that cannot fit at FBA now.

When it breaks down

  • Amazon measures and classifies products itself; your entered volume can differ from Amazon's measured value.
  • Storage types have separate limits. Do not combine them in one calculation.
  • Capacity changes over time, so refresh the Seller Central figures before shipping.

Common mistakes

Treating the estimate as Amazon's limit

Amazon sets the limit. Copy it from Capacity Monitor; this page only compares your plan to that input.

Counting the same stock twice

Amazon counts on-hand stock and open shipments against the limit. Enter only other SKUs' usage here; the cover you plan for the listed SKUs already includes their stock.

Mixing storage types

Standard-size and other storage types have separate limits, so run each type separately.

Questions

How are FBA capacity limits set?

Amazon says limits are influenced by your IPI score and by sales forecasts for your ASINs, shipment lead time and fulfillment-center capacity. Limits are set monthly in cubic feet, one per storage type. Amazon does not publish an exact formula.

Why can FBA capacity feel tight during growth?

Limits are set monthly from Amazon's forecast of your sales, so a fast-growing SKU can outrun the limit until the forecast catches up. Plan the stock that must wait upstream, and recheck Capacity Monitor each month.

Where do I find my FBA capacity limit?

Amazon's Capacity Monitor on the FBA dashboard shows current usage and the limit for each storage type.

Can I send inventory above my limit?

Usage counts stock on hand at Amazon plus open shipments on the way, and Capacity Monitor shows the capacity you have left for creating new shipments. Check it before you plan a shipment.

How do I increase my FBA capacity limit?

Amazon says a consistently higher IPI score earns higher limits. You can also request more capacity in Capacity Manager, where you name the amount, the period and the most you will pay as a reservation fee.

What should I do with a space shortfall?

Hold the estimated shortfall upstream, such as in AWD, a 3PL or your own warehouse, and replenish FBA as space opens.
