What each column means

SKU
Your own item identifier.
Weekly demand
Units expected to sell in a typical week.
Lead time
Days from ordering until stock is available.
Review period
Days between stock checks. Enter 0 if you check daily.
Safety stock
Extra units held against uncertainty.
Reorder point
Daily demand × lead time + safety stock; the sheet rounds each unit component up.
On hand and on order
Units available now and already purchased.
Order quantity
Zero above the reorder point. At or below it, daily demand × (lead time + review period) + safety stock − on hand − on order. The sheet does not apply MOQ or case packs.

Worked example

At 140 units per week, 14 days of lead time, a 7-day review period and 20 safety-stock units, the reorder point is 140 ÷ 7 × 14 + 20 = 300 units. With 100 on hand and 50 on order, stock is at 150, below the reorder point. The sheet orders up to 140 ÷ 7 × (14 + 7) + 20 = 440 units, so you order 290 units.

Use the order quantity calculator if you need a supplier minimum or case-pack rounding.

Where a spreadsheet breaks

A sheet needs someone to keep channel sales, on-order quantities and lead times current. Adding a channel, managing many SKUs or changing supplier lead times makes that manual update harder. Try Skuvelo when you need a current planning picture across your products.

Questions

Is the inventory planning spreadsheet free?

Yes. Download the CSV without an email address or sign-up.

What is the reorder point formula in the template?

Weekly demand divided by seven, multiplied by lead time in days, rounded up, plus safety stock rounded up.

How is order quantity calculated?

When on-hand plus on-order units fall to the reorder point, the sheet orders up to demand over lead time plus review period, plus safety stock. Above the reorder point it shows zero.

Can I use it in Google Sheets or Excel?

Yes. Import the CSV into Google Sheets or open it in Excel; both read the included formulas.

When should I move beyond a spreadsheet?

When channels, SKU count or changing lead times make manual updates hard to keep current.

A sheet is a starting point.
