Scan barcodes on a count, transfer or shipment

Use a camera or a handheld scanner to find the right line on a count, build a transfer, and check every item before an order ships.

Anywhere Skuvelo asks which item is in your hand, you can scan it instead of scrolling a list. Scanning works in three ways, and they all do the same thing:

  • The Skuvelo app opens a full-screen scanner.
  • A browser opens the camera inside the page. Allow camera access the first time your browser asks.
  • A handheld USB or Bluetooth scanner types the code into the Type or scan a code box and presses Enter for you. You can also type a code there yourself.

Skuvelo recognises EAN-13, UPC-A, Code 128 and QR codes. It reads the barcodes already printed on your items and shelves; it does not print barcode labels, so print those from your sales channel or label software. A code matches an item by its SKU, its UPC, EAN or GTIN, or any extra barcode saved on the item. A 12-digit UPC and the same code printed as a 13-digit EAN find the same item.

On a cycle count

  1. Open the count from Inventory → Cycle Counts and start counting.
  2. Press Scan barcode and point the camera at the item.
  3. Skuvelo jumps to that item's line and selects the quantity box. Type what is on the shelf.
  4. Repeat for each item, then press Submit count.

If the item isn't on this count, Skuvelo says so and leaves the sheet as it was.

On a transfer

  1. On Transfers, choose New transfer and pick where the stock is moving from and to.
  2. Press Scan barcode. The camera stays open: each scan adds the item as a line, or adds one unit to its line if it is already there.
  3. Correct any quantity by typing, add a reason, and create the draft.

Before an order ships

Scanning checks that the right items are going in the box.

  1. Open the order from Orders and choose Record fulfillment.
  2. Press Scan to verify and scan each item. Every line shows Scanned or Not scanned.
  3. Confirm fulfillment stays off until every line you are shipping has been scanned.

If you scan the wrong item, Skuvelo names the item you scanned and the SKU the order still expects, and nothing is recorded.

If an item can't be scanned (a torn barcode, a scanner out of battery), choose Ship without scanning and say why. The reason is saved to the order's history with your name, so anyone reviewing a mis-ship later can see it.

When one code matches two items

Sometimes two items share a code, for example when one item's SKU is the same as another item's barcode. Skuvelo never guesses. It lists both, and you choose the one in your hand. To stop it happening, give each item its own barcode on Products.
